Review Detail
Learn and Master guitar is a Winner in the 2008 Acoustic Guitar Magazine Players' Choice Awards, as well as two Telly Awards and an AEGIS Award for Excellence in Education. That tells you something about the quality and value of this product. The man behind it all, Steve Krenz, has a degree in music, and has played professionally with a broad range of bands for more than 20 years. He is currently a professional guitarist, playing and recording in Nashville, Tennessee. An impressive pedigree for a guitar teacher.
While this product is more expensive than most of its competitors, the value inherent within, far exceeds the asking price. Learn and master guitar combines a comprehensive workbook with visual and audio training via DVDs. The program enables a complete newcomer to start playing almost instantly, whilst extending intermediate and even advanced guitarists.
Highlights:
- Music theory
- Practical ear training skills
- Technique fundamentals (strumming, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs etc)
- Covers multiple genres ( rock, jazz, country, funk )
The DVDs are roughly 2 hours each in length and brimming with content. The use of video instruction combined with graphics, fretboard diagrams, tabulature and sheet music is thorough, and provides an enjoyable learning medium. The on-screen graphics and menus are professional and make the DVDs simple to navigate. The included 107 page lesson book is designed as an accompaniment to the DVDs, but it also stands alone as one of the best guitar instruction texts you could come across.
The included jam tracks provide the icing on the cake. Nearly 100 songs over 5 CDs performed by professional session musicians. The production value to these tracks is first class and has obviously been professionally engineered and mastered . You have the ability to eliminate the lead guitar track by simply adjusting the balance of the playback. Most importantly, you have the ability to speed up or slow down the tracks. This is a great tool for players learning to solo or play with a band.
If you are in the very least, semi-serious about playing guitar, I would recommend you get Learn and Master Guitar. If you can't afford a lump sum payment, consider the payment plan option.
