Steve Vai talks about the Ibanez Universe 7 String

The Ibanez Universe, Steve Vai’s signature seven-string electric guitar was first released in 1990. As this year marks the 20th anniversary of this unique instrument, Ibanez is releasing a special limited edition – the Universe UV77RE 1990 Reissue Multicolor. It will only be available in highly limited numbers. Each swirl finish on these guitars are unique and distinct from each other (see the video below where the painting process for each guitar is shown). Each guitar will also come with an Ibanez Flight Case, along with a special printed high-quality poster and special certificate.

The guitars construction features a five-piece maple/bubinga Wizard Jem neck and a basswood body.  They are finished off with 24 frets and rosewood board with  pyramid inlays. Pickups are DiMarzio Blaze II humbucking and single-coil pickups. They also feature black chrome hardware and come equipped with the original 7-string Lo-Pro Edge 7 tremolo bridge, which when combined with the ibanez Lions claw tremolo cavity,  allows substantial raising and lowering of pitches via the whammy bar.
